Garden clearance
Every garden that has got away from someone has the same problem: it is too big a job to start. Clearing it is one visit, and after that it is a garden you can keep on top of again.

Brambles, nettles, self-set saplings, ivy pulling on the fence, beds nobody has seen in years. I cut it back, dig out the things that would only come again, and leave you with ground you can work with.
It is usually the first job in a garden rather than the only one. Once it is clear the grass is a mow and the hedges are a cut, and it stays that way for the price of a regular visit.
Send me a few photos before I come. Clearance is the hardest job to judge from a description, and photos tell me whether it is an afternoon or a couple of days.

Questions people ask
- How long does a clearance take?
- Anything from an afternoon to a few days, depending on how long it has been left and how much has to come out by the root. Photos are the quickest way for me to tell you which.
- Can you clear a garden in the spring?
- Yes, with one caveat. Nesting season runs from March to August, and anything with a nest in it has to be left alone. I work round it and come back for the rest once they have gone.
- Do you dig things out, or just cut the top off?
- Both, depending on what it is. Brambles and self-set saplings come out by the root or they are back by next summer. Established shrubs you want to keep get cut back rather than taken out.
